The 2nd Annual
Scouts BSA Aviation Merit Badge Day

This exciting program centers on Aviation Merit Badge and participating Scouts should be able to complete all requirements. The program is presented by the Young Eagles of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and is supported by Bama Dixie. Scouts will receive instruction by experienced pilots and aircraft personnel. Weather permitting, Scouts will get to experience a Discovery Flight during the program day.

Additional Information:

  • Class A uniform is preferred dress for the day. 

  • Parents and adults are welcome to attend the event but only Scouts will be able to take the Discovery Flights.

  • Lunch will be served and is open to all. 

  • The EAA pilots are licensed, insured and background checked. 

  • Discovery flights are a key part and focus of this event but are weather dependent.  Final decisions on flights will be made by the EAA pilots if weather conditions or other factors become emerge as health and safety issues.  The flight is not a requirement to earn the merit badge.

  • A good portion of the event will be in an outdoor hangar so it would be prudent to bring a camp chair and water bottle. 

  • Media will likely be present and photographs taken. 

  • There is no cost for this event.

In order to participate, you must meet the following guidelines.

  1. Be a currently registered Scout in the Black Warrior Council.

  2. Pre-Registration is REQUIRED and includes:
    - signed BSA consent form/waiver by parent/guardian
    - EAA registration (a separate process)

This program is LIMITED to the first 50 Scouts to register with ALL completed paperwork. Once a Scout is registered and required paperwork is submitted, a confirmation email of acceptance will be sent.
