| “We stand on the shoulders of giants. We see more than they did, not because our sight is superior or because we are taller than they, but because they raise us up, and by their great stature add to ours.” – John of Salisbury c. 1159 Truly we each stand on the shoulders of the giants who lifted us up – parents, teachers, Scoutmasters, merit badge counselors, adult leaders, and fellow Scouts. They took the time and effort to share, teach, and walk along side us until the journey was complete. In honor of the first 100 years of Scouting, the Black Warrior Council, headquartered in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is developing an Eagle Scout Plaza and Chapel. This open air plaza will bear the names of the over 2,000 young men, including you, who have earned the highest, most prestigious rank in Scouting in this Council, Eagle Scout. The Eagle Scout Plaza and Chapel, approved by the Executive Board, will serve as a tangible reminder to boys aspiring to earn the rank of Eagle Scout that there are giants like you who have paved the way. The plaza was initiated with gifts from several generous donors. In order to begin construction and complete the Plaza, $86,000 is still needed toward the projected total cost of $250,000. This is where you come in as an Eagle Scout from this Council whose name will forever be engraved in stone within the monument pillars. We are asking that every Black Warrior Council Eagle Scout and/or their families invest in this project at a minimum, tax deductable gift level of $250. This plaza will not become a reality without your support. You are a “Giant” for endless young boys following in your footsteps. Please join your fellow Eagle Scouts and help us, and them, by supporting this perpetual monument to yours and their accomplishments. Please contact the Council office to make your donation and check the list of all Eagle Scouts from the Black Warrior Council to make sure that you are on the list and that your name is spelled correctly. The list is sorted two ways, by last name on the first tab and by Court of Honor date on the second tab. Thank you in advance for your support of such a worthy project.
