Camp O’Rear is a 90-acre Scout camp located in Jasper. It is owned and operated by the Black Warrior Council as a primitive-style facility. Camp O’Rear does have an newly refurbished dining hall building (with one large room, one small room, kitchen, fireplace, and bathrooms); a large pavilion area that sits close to the Black Water Creek; a swinging bridge; and plenty of areas for hiking, camping, and exploring. Camp O’Rear is a beautiful facility and is one of the most diverse areas in terms of Alabama’s wildlife and flora. Here is a printable map of Camp O’Rear.

Scout units are encouraged to take advantage of this wonderful outdoor area by completing a camp use permit just as you would for Camp Horne. Camp O’Rear is perfect for day or weekend activities – plan a visit soon!

Camp Use Form – You should print and fill the form out and return it to the Scout Office at least two weeks prior to using the camp.

Camp O’Rear is located on Curry Hwy in Jasper.

From Tuscaloosa, travel on Hwy 69 N until you get to Jasper. Continue on Hwy 69N into Jasper (cross railroad tracks) and turn left onto Commerce Avenue. Go 1 block and turn left on 19th Street. Immediately after you turn onto 19th Street, take the next right onto Alabama Avenue. Continue on Alabama Avenue 1.2 miles and you will intersect with Hwy 78 (you will see a McDonald’s close to this intersection). Continue straight through this intersection (Alabama Avenue now becomes Airport Road) and drive 3.5 miles. You will come to an intersection with a traffic light. Turn right at this intersection and go less than 1 mile. You will cross a bridge and turn onto the dirt road immediately on the right after crossing the bridge. You will see the Camp O’Rear gate sign. This is the outer gate; continue on this road until you reach the main Camp O’Rear gate.
